Things I Learned on My Summer Vacation to Chicago:

  1. The nickname “The Windy City” stems from an old baseball rivalry between the Cincinnati Red Stockings and the Chicago White Stockings when in 1876, The Cincinnati Enquirer wrote “Only the plucky nerve of the eating-house keeper rescued the useful seats from a journey to the Windy City.”  I have no idea what that means.  Also, Chicago is windy.
  2. Do not rent movies cross-town from where you are staying.
  3. You could survive on just avocados alone.
  4. You could not survive on just Smooth & Melty mints alone.  Although I might try it.
  5. Shampoo takes moisture out of your hair and conditioner puts it back in.  I had no idea.  Am I alone here?  I figured they both just, y’know, cleaned your hair.  I was wrong.
  6. You can wear shower caps anywhere.
  7. The Denver Airport men’s room in Terminal A near Gate 38 doubles as a Tornado Shelter and also smells like gummy bears.
  8. Oatmeal fucking milkshakes from Irazu.
  9. Cornmeal fucking milkshakes from Irazu.
  10. 5 days in Chicago is simply not enough.
